BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Women’s Basketball will start off the 2019-20 season in the Associated Press preseason Top 25, coming in at No. 24 with the release of the preseason poll on Wednesday afternoon. The Hoosiers are ranked in the preseason for the second time in program history, last appearing at No. 23 in 2016-17. It marks IU’s seventh time appearing in the AP Top 25 as the Hoosiers spent two weeks at No. 25 last season (Jan. 7-Jan. 14). It adds to the list of preseason honors for Indiana, who were selected to finish third (coaches) and fourth (media) in the Big Ten preseason polls.
IU is coming off a 21-13 record in 2018-19 with a trip to the NCAA Tournament Second Round and return four starters from that campaign. Leading the way is redshirt junior guard Ali Patberg who is a 2019 Preseason All-Big Ten selection and a candidate on the Nancy Lieberman Award preseason watch list who led IU in scoring with 15.8 points per game last season. Senior forward and leading rebounder Brenna Wise and junior guard Jaelynn Penn both averaged double figures a season ago, are also back this season. Six freshmen will also be added to the mix including 2019 Indiana Miss Basketball Jorie Allen and Maine Gatorade Player of the Year Mackenzie Holmes. Head Coach Teri Moren is in her sixth season at the helm of the program and holds a 103-66 record leading the Cream and Crimson. The 2019-20 season begins with exhibition play on Sunday, November 3 at 2 p.m. when IU hosts McKendree. The regular season tips off on Thursday, November 7 against Mount St. Mary’s at 7 p.m. in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
